Pre- Seminar Training
10:00 am – Flagger Training – minimum of 6 attendees needed to run this class – Bob Renehan This Class is certified by the national safety council for a 2 year period. Attendees will receive a wallet card, file sheet and booklet. The Class covers setting up work zones, clothing, proper methods, sign spacing, one person, two people flagging, and other optional methods. Each student will demonstrate method with flag, paddle, and take a written test.
Spring Safety Seminar Begins
1:00 – Opening Remarks – John Rayeski, Safety Subcommittee Chair
1:15 - Truck Inspections and New Requirements, NYS Trooper Karl Brennen, DOT Specialist - Come Find out what Officer Brennen sees during truck inspections.
1:45 – Outside Plant Construction Safety, including, call Dig Safely before you do any digging, directional boring problems, gas leaks and what to do, and pulling poles where the boring was done. – Jimmer Flint, Dig Safely

3:00 – Overview of the Hazard Communications Standard - HAZCOM continues to be the number 1 general industry standard cited by OSHA each year. We will review the basic requirements of the standard and what your company must to to be in compliance. We will also discuss the pending "Global Harmonization Standard" and what impact it will have on our industry if it becomes law. - Wayne – Phoenix Safety
3:30 – A law enforcement officer and his canine partner will be on site to demonstrate the canine’s ability to sniff drugs or explosives. The law enforcement officer will provide explanation on how he and his canine were trained. He will also explain to the group in detail what our personnel should be aware of as it pertains to drug making facilities that they should not enter. A Q&A session will follow immediately.

8:30 am - Trenching Safety – Bob Renehan - This session will discuss soil testing by type, proper trench tapper, why trench collapse, spoil pile, means of egress, proper shoring materials, trench inspection, competent person, testing, testing for vapers, trench safety, water removal, OSHA focus and fines.
9:30- Laser Safety - Photonix, a New York State based company will be speaking about laser safety and locating fiber optic trouble spots.

10:30 – Physical Security Assessments- John Sennett, Director - Utility Security, PSC will provide a detail presentation concerning Physical Security Assessments (Homeland Security) and what policies/protection all Telephone Companies need to have in place. Items such as how to protect critical assets, external and internal building security, employee/contractor access, physical barriers, and fences to name just a few topic areas will me discussed. A Q&A session will follow immediately.
